The Most Popular Crystals Right Now, and Why

The most popular crystals right now, from amethyst to citrine: what UK surveys and 2026 search data show, what's trending and how to choose.

The most popular crystals right now are amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, clear quartz and black tourmaline, according to one large retailer’s 2026 search data. A UK survey also puts amethyst first. There’s no single official ranking, but the same few stones keep appearing, and there are good reasons for that.

What the data shows

We looked at two useful sources, each with its own limits.

Crystals.com’s search data. Its 2026 report ranks stones by weekly searches on its own site, combined with search-engine data from June to October 2026. It’s a US retailer’s own data, and it isn’t independently verified.

F.Hinds’ UK survey. This 2023 survey polled 2,001 UK adults on their favourites, and included diamonds and other gems. It’s older, but it’s specific to the UK.

Rank Crystals.com, 2026 searches F.Hinds UK survey, 2023
1 Amethyst Amethyst (12%)
2 Citrine Diamond (11%)
3 Rose quartz Rose quartz (6%)
4 Clear quartz Emerald, aquamarine and sapphire (5% each)
5 Black tourmaline

The top ten on Crystals.com continues with moonstone, selenite, labradorite, smoky quartz and pyrite.

Why amethyst stays on top

Amethyst tops both lists. Its colour is distinctive, it’s widely available and it comes in everything from tumble stones to huge geodes. GIA notes that it was once valued about as highly as ruby and emerald. Our articles on the history of amethyst and how amethyst geodes form explain more of its appeal.

Crystals.com identifies four main themes:

  1. Manifestation: citrine, pyrite and green aventurine. See our manifestation crystals guide.
  2. Protection: black tourmaline, obsidian and smoky quartz. Read about protection crystals.
  3. Self-love: rose quartz, covered in our guide to rose quartz meaning.
  4. Interior design: crystals used as decor. See crystals for the home.

It says that citrine has overtaken clear quartz for the first time in its data, while searches for black tourmaline are up sharply. Trends can change quickly, so don’t feel that you need to follow them.

The top crystals at a glance

Crystal Why people like it Good first form
Citrine Warm, sunny colour Small cluster
Rose quartz Soft pink, makes a good gift Polished heart
Clear quartz Versatile and durable Crystal point
Black tourmaline Striking natural form Rough piece
Moonstone Soft glow Pendant
Selenite Pearly and pale Plate or wand
Labradorite Flashing colour Palm stone

The traditional meanings attached to these stones are beliefs and not proven effects.

Why people choose what they choose

The F.Hinds survey offers some interesting clues:

  • 42% chose their favourite because they liked its colour or look.
  • 18% said their favourite was their birthstone.
  • 17% said they mainly use crystals to relax and feel calm, the most common reason.

So looks clearly matter most, and you don’t need a deep knowledge of crystal lore to start. Personal meaning, such as a birthstone, is another good route. The survey also found that 21% of people believe that gemstones have healing powers, but as we explain, there’s no good evidence for this.

  1. Trust your eye. If you love the colour, that’s a great reason.
  2. Check the care needs. Selenite and others have special requirements.
  3. Beware of hype. High demand can attract fakes and misleading descriptions, so read our guide to spotting fake crystals.
  4. Start small. Try tumble stones before you buy larger pieces.
  5. Look beyond the top ten. Our Crystal Guide has 79 stones to explore, and many lesser-known ones are beautiful.

Popularity has a downside

High demand can put pressure on supply chains, and that’s why it’s worth asking about sourcing. Our article on ethical crystals explains what to ask. Geology.com lists Brazil, South Africa, India and Madagascar among rose quartz’s main producers, as an example of how global the trade is.

Not at all. Popularity reflects things like availability, price and how often a stone appears online. Many less popular stones are just as beautiful, and might suit you better. You could browse by star sign or chakra, or simply look through our Crystal Guide until something catches your eye.

Frequently asked questions

Amethyst came first in the F.Hinds survey in 2023. We haven’t found a more recent independent UK ranking.

Citrine shows the biggest rise in Crystals.com’s data, with black tourmaline also up sharply. That’s one retailer’s data, so treat it as a useful guide and not a definitive answer.

Clear quartz, amethyst and rose quartz are good choices, because they’re affordable and durable. See our guide to crystals for beginners.
